Wangarr Creations: an online shop for Yolŋu art and stories
A story and shop app for a Yolŋu creative studio — an illustrated allegory alongside a catalogue of art, books and apparel.
Our approach
We started by listening. Before any screens were drawn, we sat with the Wangarr team and cultural custodians to understand which stories could be shared, how they should be told, and who needed to approve them. That guidance shaped everything that followed: the illustrated allegory was built as the heart of the experience, with the shop woven around it rather than on top of it. Each chapter and product section went back to the community for review, so cultural protocols were confirmed before anything was published. On the commerce side, we kept the catalogue simple to maintain, so the studio can add new art, books and apparel without our help, and tested the experience with first-time users to make sure it felt as welcoming as the stories it carries.
